[He quotes with a wry smile. That's all very well, but Sato's starting to get the distinct feeling that this guy won't be very fun or useful.]

Where I'm from, grave injustices are perpetuated by the authorities. Oh yes, it's under the pretense of keeping everyone safe, but it has more to do with discrimination, power, and money. Sadly, that seems to be the way of the world everywhere.

[Which is true enough, that. Still, while he's all for doing a bit of a show once in a while, but fabricating a much more complicated narrative here in Hadriel isn't really worthwhile right at the moment, and he doesn't want this discussion to head anywhere where more 'reasonable' questions might be asked.]

You'd be well advised to stay clear of them. There were some issues with the first attempt, but eventually, their time will come.

[Lance has indeed been occasionally accused of being no fun.

He's quiet, listening, but again the answers are very vague. The warning, however, is not; it's pretty clear, and that causes him some concern. He's not a huge fan of the Guard so far, but that's more because he doesn't like Maketh than that he has a problem with anyone else, and he certainly doesn't want anyone hurt.

So he decides to ask a bit more about that subject, rather than trying to get any concrete answers in the other areas.]

Do you have problems with everyone in the Guard, or certain individuals?

If they gave up any pretense at authority, I don't think there'd be any problems with any of them. I'm willing to forgive and forget.

[Fortunately, in Sato's opinion, there's no chance of that ever happening. That's exactly why he chose that as his 'condition'.]

[Okay, interesting. Now he's torn between asking more questions and finding the conversation on that note, before he ends up annoying this guy or otherwise making himself memorable.

He decides he can get away with a few more questions, probably.]

You don't think any of them would cause harm without the backing of their status in the Guard?

Oh, I'm sure some of them might bear a grudge, but it's nothing I can't handle.

[For all that he talks about 'the people', Sato's train of thought is more directed towards himself. Still, the man came here asking mildly suspicious of the guard, or so he says...]

Did you have trouble with someone in particular?

[That's not exactly what he was asking, but he's not going to pry on the subject further for now. As for the question he has a few ways to answer, but he decides to again go with truthful but vague.]

There is someone in particular whose motives I have concerns about, yes. But I until I'm certain it'd be wrong to name them.

I'm afraid there's not much I can help with then. But they have some devious minds in their group, so I wouldn't be surprised by anything you might suspect.

[Maketh's traps, he has to admit, were quite good. And if he'd known they were literally going to put him on ice well, he wouldn't have stuck around as long as he did out of curiosity.]

[More vagueness, so Lance is thinking he's probably gotten as much information as he's going to get without being too nosy or suspicious. Probably time to say goodbye for now.]
